An Experimental Study of a Nailed Soil Slope: Effects of Surcharge Loading and Nails Characteristics

The earth nailing system is a ground improvement technique used to stabilize slopes. behavior of the dependent on soil and characteristics, such as spacing between nails, orientation, length, method installation properties, slope height angle, surcharge loading, among others. In present study, three-dimensional physical model was built simulate nailed with scale 1:10 various nail characteristics. simulated models consist Perspex strips facing steel bars reinforcing slope. Sand beds in were formed, using sand raining system. performance under three important nails i.e., varying loading studied. It observed that there reduction lateral movement footing settlements an increase length. found face horizontal pressure non-linear different length inclination decreased vertical, stress settlement, while increased vertical behind mass.
